Explosion-Proof Industrial Vacuum Cleaners & Extraction Systems

For flammable and explosive dusts

EVO-PRODUCTS develops mobile and stationary explosion-proof extraction solutions for safe extraction in potentially explosive atmospheres.
EVOTEC assists industrial and manufacturing facilities in selecting mobile vacuum cleaners, stationary extraction systems, and suitable accessories for flammable or explosive dusts.

Standards & Models

The requirements for explosion-proof vacuum cleaners correspond to dust classes M or H, but with the additional Type 22 classification. EVOTEC vacuum cleaners are tested in accordance with EN 60335-2-69, including Annex AA . The required design also complies with EN 62784 and ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Every medium requires an appropriate security strategy

Whether the process air is contaminated with gases or vapors, explosive dust, liquids, or reactive metal powders: To ensure safe detection, both the medium and the process must be considered together.

EVOTEC combines various extraction, filtration, and separation principles with equipment designs tailored to each specific application.

Which medium is extracted in which ATEX zone?

Dust Explosion Protection Zone 21

II 2D Ex h IIIC T135°C Db

Dust Explosion Protection Zone 22

II 3D Ex h IIIC T135°C Dc

Gas Explosion Protection, Zone 1

II 2G Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Gb

Gas Explosion Protection, Zone 2

II 3G Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Gc

Depending on the process, combinations of different media or zones may also occur. For example, it may be necessary to extract solid particles or liquids in a gas explosion-protected zone.

EVOTEC offers solutions tailored to these needs, taking into account both the zone and the extraction medium.

Flammable and Explosive Dusts

For solid and potentially explosive dusts, stationary extraction systems or mobile industrial vacuum cleaners are available, depending on the type of extraction required.

The filtration technology is tailored to the type of dust, the required filter class, the airflow rate, and the process.

Reactive and flammable substances

Dust from aluminum, titanium, copper, and similar materials can be reactive and requires a specially tailored separation method.

For inert suction devices from EVOTEC , the drawn-in medium is bound and passivated in a liquid bath. A degassing valve prevents the uncontrolled buildup of gases and vapors. Additional VA and H14 filter stages ensure reliable post-filtration.

EVOTEC Explosion-Proof Industrial Vacuum Cleaner

Mobile EX industrial vacuum cleaners are the ideal solution when flammable, conductive, or explosive dusts need to be collected flexibly and safely. They are used for cleaning tasks on machines, workstations, floors, or production lines and can be equipped with appropriate filter technology, disposal systems, and conductive accessories depending on the application.

EVOTEC Explosion-Proof Inert Industrial Vacuum Cleaners

Inert-EX safety vacuum cleaners with a liquid bath are used wherever reactive or potentially explosive dusts must be safely collected and passivated. The systems are designed for continuous industrial use and meet the requirements of safety-critical applications, such as in additive manufacturing or when cleaning equipment contaminated with reactive metal dusts.

Industrial compressed-air industrial vacuum cleaners with explosion protection are used wherever electrical components must be avoided for safety or process-related reasons.
EVOTEC compressed-air industrial vacuum cleaners are designed for ATEX Zones 1 and 2 as well as 21 and 22 and feature powerful compressed-air ejectors with silencers.

Stationary Exhaust Solutions for ATEX Explosion-Hazard Zones

For continuous dust, fume, or particle collection directly at machines, workstations, and production processes, EVOTEC offers a wide range of stationary and process-adaptable extraction systems. Depending on the application, medium, and risk assessment, EVOTEC systemscan be designed as explosion-proof models—for example, for flammable, conductive, or potentially explosive dusts.

Whether it’s welding fumes, grinding dust, powder, Fine Dust, or process-related emissions: The appropriate extraction system is selected based on the type of dust, airflow rate, filter requirements, ATEX zone, and integration into the production process.

EP 28 PROTECT:
Custom solution for combustible and explosive dusts

For a customer-specific grinding process, the EP 28 PROTECT was developed as a high-safety system for flammable metal dusts. The system combines extraction, filtration technology, a fire suppression system, flameless pressure relief, and control into a coordinated safety concept.

The solution demonstrates how explosion-proof extraction technologycan be customized for safety-critical processesto suit the specific medium, application, and production environment.

Explosion-proof extraction technology for industries, processes, and materials

Flammable, conductive, or explosive dusts can be generated in many industrial processes—from metal powders and grinding dust to paint powders, flour, starch, or chemical powders. EVOTEC helps companies select the right EX-rated industrial vacuum cleaners and extraction systems for mobile cleaning, machine-side collection, and stationary process extraction.

Typical applications for explosion-proof extraction solutions:

The right solution always depends on the medium, dust class, ATEX zone, air flow rate, collection capacity, and process environment. That is why we evaluate each application individually and then recommend a suitable mobile or stationary extraction solution.

CriterionRelevance
What material is being vacuumed up?The type of dust, flammability, conductivity, and health hazards determine the technical design.
Is it dust, powder, swarf, fume, liquid, or steam?Different media require different filtering, collection, and protection strategies.
Is there a known ATEX zone?Zones 1, 2, 21, or 22 determine which device model is possible and required.
What dust class is required?Depending on the hazard, dust class M or H filters, or HEPA filters, may be required.
Mobile cleaning or stationary process extraction?EX industrial vacuum cleaners are suitable for flexible cleaning; stationary extraction systems are better suited for continuous operation and connection to machinery.
How much dust or particulate matter is there? The capacity, container size, pre-separator, and disposal system must be appropriately sized.
What air flow rate and vacuum level are required?Critical for piping, collection elements, hose lengths, and suction capacity.
Where does the dust come from?Whether the buildup occurs in isolated spots, in the machine room, on the production line, or over a large area, different solutions are required.
Are there any special requirements? For example, pneumatic drives, inerting, stainless steel, ESD, antistatic accessories, or special disposal methods.
How should the system be integrated?Stand-alone unit, machine connection, piping, central exhaust system, or custom solution.

Don’t have all the details? No problem. We’ll review your application with you and help you select a suitable explosion-proof extraction solution.

Frequently Asked Questions About Explosion Protection (FAQ)

When do I need an EX-protected extraction solution?

An EX-protected extraction solution is an option when flammable, conductive, or explosive dusts need to be safely collected or captured directly at the process—for example, during cleaning work on machines, workstations, and production lines, or for stationary extraction at machines and systems.

ATEX Zone 22 describes an area in which an explosive atmosphere caused by dust does not normally occur, or occurs only briefly. Whether Zone 22 or another zone applies is determined by the operator’s risk assessment and zone classification.

Explosive dusts can be generated by, among other things, metal powders, aluminum dust, plastic dust, paint powder, flour, sugar, starch, grains, pharmaceutical powders, or chemical substances. The key factors are always the properties of the substance, its concentration, ignition sources, and the process environment.

No, not automatically, but many devices can be configured to meet EX requirements, depending on the model and version. Which version is suitable must be determined based on the type of dust, zone, area of application, and technical requirements.
